Golfing Options Near Aspen
The area has four golf courses: Aspen Golf & Tennis Club, Snowmass Club, Ironbridge Golf Club, River Valley Ranch Golf Club, and the Roaring Fork Club.
Aspen Golf & Tennis Club
This course is a challenging 18-hole course just 2 miles from Aspen. The 7,156-yard championship course is complete with a PGA award-winning Golf Shop, practice hitting area, chipping green, putting green, cart rentals, as well as full-service locker rooms. Group and private instruction is available by PGA staff and be scheduled by calling the golf shop or emailing one of the PGA Professionals. The restaurant is Red Mountain Grill. Golfweek Magazine rated this course #21 in their rankings on municipal golf courses in 2009-2010.
Snowmass Club
This course is a championship mountain golf course that is a bit more involved, with majestic views and challenging landscapes. Designed by award-winning architect Jim Engh, the course has seemingly infinite playing possibilities. The fairways are well sculpted, the greens are challenging (5 sets of tees), and the bunkers are said to be frightening. Locals say this course isn’t one you’ll soon master, or forget. The pro shop carries clubs Taylor Made, Titleist, Cobra, Nike, Callaway and Ping. They carry shoes from Nike, Footjoy, Adidas and Walter Genuine. The restaurant in the clubhouse is named Black Saddle Bar & Grille. It has a large patio decorated in stylish, modern mountain décor. The Snowmass club offers golf instruction from a group of PGA accredited and Class A Members. Caddies, club fitting, club re-gripping, rental clubs, locker rental, bag service and handicap service are all available.
Roaring Fork Club
The Roaring Fork Club, located between Old Snowmass and Basalt, is an 18-hole designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is known for its stunning rugged mountain views and symmetry with the natural landscape. The course is private—open to members of the Roaring Fork Club. It offers a choice between two distinct experiences – one representing rolling hills and open meadows, the other embracing the river and woods. The course has traditional small greens, tight approaches, changing elevations, fine bent grass tees and greens and stunning beauty. The first five holes play through pristine wetlands and crystal clear lakes teeming with trout. Five additional holes play on or near the fast moving waters of the Roaring Fork River, or along Spring Creek. The course also features a near perfect east-west orientation that allows for dramatic morning and afternoon sun while highlighting stunning mountain views to the north and south.
River Valley Ranch Golf Club
Located in Carbondale, River Valley Ranch Golf Club is situated at the foot of Mt. Sopris in the Crystal River Valley. The course has riparian corridors, wetlands, grasses and rolling topography. River Valley Ranch Golf Club is a daily fee course, open to the public. Golf Magazine called the course “the new jewel of the Rockies”, which named River Valley Ranch to its prestigious “Top 10 You Can Play” listing. In addition, Golfer Magazine listed the course in its “Best of America’s New Courses” list. Four holes are played along the banks of the Crystal River, while others meander throughout the sage brush and pinion pines. The award-winning design features striking bunkers, large greens, exciting elevation changes and unique water features – all created to take full advantage of the breathtaking mountain and Crystal River Valley views. River Valley Ranch will challenge the best golfers while creating a pleasurable and relaxing experience for golfers of all skill levels. Aspen’s Finbarr’s Irish Pub and Kitchen, long a popular Hyman Street mall favorite, has a second location at River Valley Ranch Golf Course.
